WHO IS THIS WRITER, SYLVIA SMART?
I am Sylvia Smart, a writer. I can't remember a time when I didn't know that I was a writer. As soon as I could hold a crayon in my hand, I copied the letters of the alphabet that my father wrote down for me, at my insistance. My first story was about how small an ant is, from the ant's point of view. I distinctly remember closing my eyes and trying to imagine what it would feel like to be that tiny; to stumble and fall into the cracks of the floor.
I was 4 when I asked my Dad to write it down for me - as I dictated the words, so I could copy it onto construction paper. I even designed a book cover for my story.
I learned to read and to write whole words - and only when I finally attended public school did I learn to sound out letters and read one word at a time. I skipped kindergarden because the teachers thought I would be bored - and they were right. By third grade I had read all of the books in the school library and the librarian was bringing me books from home. My mother did not have a great respect for books - so we didn't have library cards or visit the public library.
I am a very fast reader - because I went from reading whole words to reading half sentences and full sentences at a glance. Also because I read underneath my bed every night, with a flashlight my Dad gave me. I read my father's western paperbacks - and Jules Vern novels.
I just completed my novel: Daughter of Islam. It is the first book in a trilogy titled The Cronicles of Nomad. I hope you can't wait to meet the characters, join in the action, and learn about something you probably don't know about.
Come with me on this epic journey to numerous countries, different cultures, and a major change in the world we live in. Instead of being an historical fictional saga - this is a sneak preview of what awaits us just around the corner. Meet Safina, a remarkable world leader and share her mission to transform the future of our planet. I promise you that at the end of this complex and intricate journey - you will be infused with hope and excitement about the possibilities that await us. You will cry and laugh for her, cheer her on, see her humanity and her strengths and weaknesses. You will hope for Brecken to succeed, and you will hate the antagonists. Brecken and Claud, Arnaud and Jayjan will become visitors in your head - and you will, like members of my writers group - refer to them as if they were real people that you know intimately.
